Comfort in cooperation with the Department of Water Resources Management, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment have officially launched “Comfort loves water” - a film contest with the theme: A day without water. This contest is a great opportunity for young people to show their creativeness and clever approach to a hot issue of the society: Water scarcity!

On assessing the contest, Mr. Hoang Van Bay, Director of the Department said: “Vietnam is not rich in water. The status of water pollution, recession and scarcity has been more and more serious, which threatens Vietnam’s water security and stable development.

If fact, the majority of community still believes that water is a “gift of nature”, which results in a careless use of water in many localities; whereas many others do not have enough clean water for minimum daily needs. Water scarcity is a real and urgent challenge. Finding an efficient use of water is a potential solution to this problem.

In my opinion, I strongly believe that young people, such as students are well aware of this matter. Their creativeness, enthusiasm, and knowledge gained from both school and practical experiences will enable them to convey the message of water saving in a persuasive way to the society.

The contest has two rounds. In round 1, contestants are required to make a 2 minute video clip on the topic of “A day without water" to demonstrate the impact of water scarcity to their lives or the lives of others in Vietnam. The clip can be made in narrative form, illustrated with pictures or footages. 5 best entries of round 1 will be proceeded to round 2 and received a sponsor of 20 million VND to turn their ideas in to a complete documentary.

Beside an attractive prize for the winner (A Canon EOS 5D Mark III Digital and 1 year free use of Comfort products), the winning film will earn the honor of being broadcasted on national television. We want to ensure that the message of water scarcity will be spread deeply and widely to the whole society.

Expected to see many outstanding pieces of works!

The contest is expected to attract a large quantity of contestants for its simplicity yet opening an interesting creative zone for the youth to express their love and care for the environment.

This is also part of “One billion m3 of water" for the Vietnamese activities implemented by Comfort in association with Department of Water Resources Management, Vietnam Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

Ms. Hoang Thi Minh Hong – the first woman to reach South Pole and the spokesperson of the campaign said: “Water scarcity is actually a very common issue in Vietnam. However, many people in the society are not aware of this matter and continue to waste this precious resource.

Some of us do not even recognize that 98% of Earth’s water is in the oceans, only 2% is fresh water; and of which 1.6% is locked up in the Poles, which means there will be very little fresh water in the future. I highly appreciate this kind of contest. As always appreciating the youth’ creativeness, intimacy, sensitiveness and sincerity to the environment, I really hope that we will see a lot of interesting entries…”.

The contest aims to award the most creative and practical idea to call for water savings, rather than technical complexity in filming techniques.
