A centenary of science

Unilever’s port sunlight r&d laboratory in the UK has been honoured by the world-renowned Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) for its 100-year contribution to science.

Landmark award

The society’s prestigious Landmark plaque was unveiled at the centre on 30 March by RSC Vice President Paul O’Brien.

“It was a particular pleasure to present the Landmark award on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the historic Port Sunlight facility,” he said, paying tribute to the site’s unique history and ongoing innovation. “We are also very impressed by Unilever's enormous commitment to our future by its current Sustainable Living Plan,” he added.

“A proud tradition of scientific excellence”

Laboratory Director Dr Mike Parkington joined Unilever’s Chief R&D Officer Geneviève Berger to accept the accolade.

“A proud tradition of scientific excellence remains at the heart of our research and development today, as we look to help the company deliver its ambitious vision of doubling the size of the company while reducing its environmental impact,” said Mike at the presentation.

“This award is a great honour for Unilever, for this laboratory but especially for the people who work here,” added Geneviève. “Generations of families have worked here in Port Sunlight. It has been their experience, their passion and their drive that has seen Unilever’s iconic brands being used and enjoyed by so many people around the globe.”
